Compact High-Cycle Conveying for Ash and Dust Handling Systems

The Clyde Ash Vessel is a compact, dense-phase pneumatic conveying system designed specifically for high-cycle ash and dust handling applications in power generation and industrial processes.

Installed in hundreds of ash-handling systems worldwide, the Ash Vessel is particularly suited to multi-outlet hopper arrangements typically found beneath electrostatic precipitators (ESP), fabric filters, and boiler dust collection systems.

Its simple, robust construction, combined with Clyde's proven Dome Valve technology, ensures reliable discharge of collected dust while maintaining near-empty hopper conditions to prevent bridging and material buildup.

Key Features

  • Compact pressure vessel design suitable for restricted installations
  • Optimised for multi-hopper systems beneath ESPs and fabric filters
  • Simple, robust construction for reliable long-term operation
  • Supplied fully assembled to minimise site installation work
  • Single inlet Dome Valve providing reliable sealing and isolation
  • Capable of being supported directly from the process hopper where required

Reliable Conveying of Coarse Ash

When handling coarser or grittier ash from Economiser or Air Preheater hoppers, the conveying system is often equipped with pipeline Density Stabilisers (air boosters).

These devices introduce controlled air injection into the conveying pipeline to:

  • Stabilise dense phase flow
  • Control plug formation
  • Prevent pipeline blockages
  • Ensure reliable conveying of coarse or non-fluidisable materials

The use of Density Stabilisers allows Clyde Ash Vessel systems to maintain stable conveying performance even when handling difficult ash streams.

Proven Reliability in Continuous Operation

The Ash Vessel has been engineered for high-frequency operating cycles, delivering exceptional reliability in demanding ash handling environments.

Key operational advantages include:

  • Zero leakage sealing through the Clyde Dome Valve
  • Over 3,000,000 cycles between major overhauls
  • Around 1,000,000 cycles between seal replacements
  • Process hoppers are maintained nearly empty to prevent bridging or blockages

This design ensures maximum availability of the plant dust collection system, which is critical to maintaining stable plant operation.
